Two Strings at Once
In the basic lick the middle finger has a lot of free time. You can use it to pick out parts of a melody or to stress different parts of a roll by plucking one of the treble (thinner) strings as the thumb strikes down on a bass string. Try these:-
| Form an Am chord as in the first lesson. Start your lick by plucking string 2 (B) as you start and at the same time as you pluck string 5 with you thumb. | 5,43,6,2,43 2 |
T,T,I,T,M,T,I M |
|
| On the second roll try sliding the chord up two frets. |
Am >Bm No bar needed |
||
| You can even miss out the end of the roll. | 5,43,6,2,4 2 |
T,T,I,T,M,T M |
|
| You can also reverse the 4,3 twiddle. This puts the thumb in the wrong place for the base string but do not worry -just leave it out. | 5,34,2,34 2 |
T,I,T,M,I,T M |
Try some of these variations with different chords. Bar chords are best. You can damp these by raising the left hand slightly. This gives a much neater start to each chord change.
